A student voice

Colin Schlangen raised his right hand and took the oath of office as a student representative to the Little Falls School Board on Monday, Sept. 21. Schlangen, a junior at Little Falls Community High School, will serve as a voice for students in district decisions.

The position gives students a direct line to the board. Schlangen will attend meetings, share concerns from his classmates, and report back on issues that affect daily school life. Board members said the role matters because policies on schedules, activities, and building rules land first on students.

Schlangen said he wants to listen before he speaks. He plans to talk with students across grade levels, gather their questions, and bring clear points to the table. He also wants to explain board actions in plain language so students understand why decisions are made.

Superintendent and board members welcomed him and noted that student input often improves planning. Schlangen will serve through the school year. He said he is ready to learn how local government works and to make sure student views are heard at every meeting.
