The first walls are now standing for the upcoming environmental education center being developed by Jasper County Conservation. Groundbreaking for the impressive 7,200 square-foot facility took place in early October, marking a significant milestone in the project. With an estimated budget of $2.9 million, this center is set to be located on the southeast edge of Newton.
The new building aims to provide a space for educational programs focused on environmental conservation and sustainability. It will serve as a hub for community engagement, offering workshops, classes, and activities designed to foster a deeper understanding of local ecosystems and environmental stewardship.
Officials are optimistic that the center will enhance the community's appreciation for nature and promote ecological awareness among residents of all ages. As construction progresses, the project is expected to attract visitors and serve as a valuable resource for schools and organizations interested in environmental education.
