Hillsboro Schools Foundation Hosts Making Strides For Education 5K

The Hillsboro Schools Foundation is gearing up for its annual fall fundraiser, a 5K Run/Walk set to take place on October 3rd in the Orenco neighborhood. The event, called Making Strides for Education, gives community members a direct way to support students across the district.

Organizers say the course will wind through the streets of Orenco Station, offering a flat and fast route for runners while also being accessible for walkers and families with strollers. The event is not timed, so participants are encouraged to go at their own pace. There will also be a shorter kids' dash for younger children who want to join in the fun.

All proceeds from the race go toward the foundation's grant programs, which fund classroom projects, school supplies, and other learning resources that fall outside the regular district budget. Over the years, the foundation has helped pay for everything from new library books to STEM equipment for science labs.

Registration is open now, with early bird pricing available until the end of September. Same-day registration will also be offered starting at 8 a.m., with the race kicking off at 9 a.m. Participants are encouraged to arrive early to pick up their race bibs and enjoy the pre-race atmosphere.

Local businesses have stepped up to sponsor the event, providing water stations along the route and snacks at the finish line. Volunteers are still needed to help with course marshaling and check-in tables.

For those who cannot attend in person, the foundation is offering a virtual option. Runners can complete their 5K anywhere during the race weekend and submit their time online. This makes it easy for alumni or former residents to stay involved.

The foundation hopes to raise at least fifteen thousand dollars this year, which would be a new record for the event. Last year's race drew more than three hundred participants, and organizers are hoping to beat that number this time around.
