The Institute of American Indian Arts closed its campus unexpectedly this week after a significant information technology disruption affected operations across the school. IAIA President Shelly Lowe said staff was still working to diagnose what went wrong, but operations should return to normal by Friday afternoon.
The closure disrupted classes and campus services, leaving students and employees waiting for updates as technical teams worked to identify the source of the problem. Lowe did not say whether the disruption involved a security breach or an internal systems failure, and officials have not released further details about the cause.
Campus officials advised the community to monitor official channels for instructions about when normal activities would resume. The school has not announced any changes to its academic calendar or scheduled events as a result of the outage.
The disruption highlights the growing dependence of colleges on digital systems for instruction, records and communication. Even brief outages can halt daily operations and force administrators to make quick decisions about whether buildings can remain open safely.
Students and staff were told to stay away from campus until the systems are restored and verified. Lowe said the school is prioritizing a full recovery and will share more information once the diagnosis is complete.
