Mark Herndon running to bring more transparency, education funding to Hamilton County

Mark Herndon is entering the race for Hamilton County mayor with a promise to open up the halls of power. In a recent interview, Herndon said his primary goal is to pull residents directly into the daily operations of local government, shifting away from what he calls closed-door decision-making.

Herndon argues that too many county policies are crafted without public input. He wants to establish regular town hall sessions and a transparent budget process where taxpayers can see exactly how their money is spent. "The people deserve a seat at the table, not just a chance to vote every four years," he stated.

Education funding is another cornerstone of his platform. Herndon is calling for a full audit of the county's school budget to identify waste and redirect funds into classroom resources and teacher pay. He believes the current system leaves educators and students shortchanged while administrative costs climb.

The candidate also stressed the need for responsible growth management as the county expands. He wants to tie new development to infrastructure improvements so that roads and utilities keep pace with new housing.

Herndon faces a crowded primary field, but he is betting that a message of radical transparency and fiscal focus will resonate with voters tired of politics as usual. He plans to release a detailed policy paper on school funding in the coming weeks.
