New Initiative Unveils Canadian Centre for Nature-based Education

OTTAWA, Ontario, Oct. 27, 2025 — In an exciting development for environmental education, a coalition of conservation organizations has officially launched the Canadian Centre for Nature-based Education (CCNbE). This innovative initiative aims to promote hands-on, nature-focused learning opportunities within schoolyards, community spaces, and public green areas throughout Canada.

The CCNbE is designed to foster collaboration among various stakeholders, including non-governmental organizations, governmental bodies, and educational institutions. Mike Bingley, the director of the CCNbE and the education director for the Canadian Wildlife Federation, emphasized the importance of teamwork in realizing the centre's mission. He stated, “We’re building this centre to thrive on collaboration,” highlighting the collective effort to enhance educational experiences that connect students and communities with the natural world.

The initiative seeks to inspire the next generation of environmental stewards by engaging them in practical, nature-based learning. By integrating outdoor education into curricula, the CCNbE aims to cultivate a deeper appreciation for biodiversity and the environment among young Canadians.
