Pennsylvania Education Secretary Visits Gettysburg High School to Highlight Student Support Programs

Pennsylvania Secretary of Education Carrie Rowe visited Gettysburg Area High School on Monday to see firsthand how a clothing closet and other assistance programs are helping students succeed. The visit focused on efforts that provide clothing and school supplies to students at no cost, along with additional services designed to remove barriers to learning.

During the tour, Rowe met with staff and students involved in the programs. School officials explained how the clothing closet operates and how it supports families who may struggle to afford basic necessities. The initiative allows students to pick up items discreetly, helping them feel comfortable and ready to focus on their studies.

Rowe also learned about other support systems in place at the school, including food assistance and academic help. Administrators said these programs have made a noticeable difference in attendance and student confidence. Teachers noted that when students have their basic needs met, they are more engaged in class and less likely to miss school.

The secretary praised the school's commitment to addressing needs beyond the classroom. She said such efforts are essential for creating equitable learning environments across the state. Local leaders added that partnerships with community groups and volunteers make these programs possible.

The visit concluded with a discussion about how state resources can further support similar initiatives in other districts. School officials said they hope to expand their services in the coming year.
