SO Pilipinas Equips More Than 500 Education Leaders to Advance Inclusive Sports Across the Philippines

Special Olympics Pilipinas has hit a significant milestone in its ongoing effort to bring inclusive sports to every corner of the country. The organization recently wrapped up a National Training of Trainers focused on Unified Sports, held in Baguio City. The event drew more than 500 education leaders from the Department of Education, with representatives coming from 18 regions and covering a network of roughly 45,000 schools nationwide.

The training was designed to equip these leaders with the tools and knowledge needed to implement Unified Sports programs in their respective areas. Unified Sports brings together athletes with and without intellectual disabilities to compete on the same teams, promoting social inclusion through shared athletic experience. The goal is not just to teach sports skills but to foster a culture of acceptance and respect among students of all abilities.

By training such a large and geographically diverse group, Special Olympics Pilipinas is building a strong foundation for sustainable growth. These education leaders will now serve as local experts, able to train teachers and organize events within their own school divisions.
