A University of Hawaiʻi Maui College student has been selected for a major scholarship aimed at supporting future automotive technicians. Robbiel Lyndon Fronda, who is currently enrolled in the college's automotive technology program, will receive the 2026 Servco Technical Education Program award.
The scholarship comes from Servco Pacific Inc., one of the region's largest privately held companies and a longtime supporter of technical education. The STEP scholarship is designed to help students cover tuition, tools, and other costs associated with their training. It also opens doors for hands-on experience and potential career paths within Servco's network of dealerships and service centers.
Fronda stood out among applicants for his dedication to the trade and his academic performance. The award is not just a financial boost; it also carries recognition within the local automotive industry. For students like Fronda, this kind of support can make the difference between pausing their studies and completing their certification on time.
The automotive field continues to face a shortage of trained technicians, especially as vehicles become more complex with electric and hybrid systems. Programs like STEP aim to close that gap by investing in students early. Servco has awarded similar scholarships to students at other community colleges across the state in previous years.
Fronda's achievement highlights the value of technical education and the growing opportunities for skilled workers in Hawaii. He is expected to continue his coursework at Maui College and move toward a career in the automotive sector after graduation.
