Victor Muñoz, who serves as the Director of First Year Experience at Wilbur Wright College, has been chosen to join the 2024 cohort of Excelencia in Education Policy Fellows. The program, run by the national nonprofit Excelencia in Education, selects professionals who work directly with Latino students to help shape policies that improve college access and completion.
Muñoz will spend the next year working alongside other fellows from across the country. They will focus on analyzing current policies and developing recommendations that support Latino student success in higher education. The fellowship includes training sessions, policy brief writing, and meetings with lawmakers.
In his role at Wilbur Wright College, part of the City Colleges of Chicago system, Muñoz helps new students transition into college life. He coordinates orientation programs, academic advising, and support services aimed at keeping students on track to graduate. His work has focused heavily on first-generation college students, many of whom come from Latino backgrounds.
Excelencia in Education has recognized Wilbur Wright College before for its efforts to serve Latino students. The college has received the organization's "Seal of Excelencia" for its data-driven approach to closing equity gaps. Muñoz's selection as a policy fellow is seen as another step in the college's broader commitment to improving outcomes for its diverse student body.
The fellowship runs through August 2025. Muñoz will continue his duties at the college while participating in the program.
