Clark joins Massachusetts Transfer Guarantee, expanding access to affordable education

Clark University has officially entered the Massachusetts Transfer Guarantee program, a move aimed at making higher education more accessible and affordable for community college students across the state. The private university signed a memorandum of understanding with the New England Board of Higher Education this spring, cementing its role in the initiative.

The program, which already includes several public and private institutions, allows students who earn an associate degree at a participating Massachusetts community college to transfer seamlessly into Clark with guaranteed admission. The agreement is designed to eliminate common roadblocks like lost credits and complicated application processes. Students who meet the academic requirements will also have their tuition costs capped, reducing the financial burden of completing a bachelor's degree.

Clark officials emphasized that the partnership aligns with the university's long-standing commitment to equity and social mobility. By joining the guarantee, the school hopes to attract a more diverse student body from communities that have historically faced barriers to four-year degrees. The move also strengthens ties between Clark and the state's network of community colleges, creating a clearer pipeline for students who might otherwise stop their education after earning an associate degree.

The Massachusetts Transfer Guarantee has grown steadily since its launch, with more institutions signing on each year. Clark becomes the latest private university to participate, signaling a broader trend of four-year schools working to bridge the gap with two-year colleges. For students, the deal offers a straightforward path: finish a community college program, meet the grade requirements, and transfer to Clark without the usual uncertainty. The university expects the first cohort of transfer students under the agreement to enroll in the coming academic year.
