Euan Blair’s Multiverse ‘needs improvement’, Ofsted finds

The education start-up Multiverse, founded by Euan Blair, has been handed a "requires improvement" rating by the UK's education regulator Ofsted. The company, which offers apprenticeship programs in fields like data analytics and software engineering, was assessed across five key areas and fell short in four of them.

Inspectors found that while the company's leadership and management were adequate, the quality of education, behavior and attitudes, personal development, and apprenticeship provision all needed work. The report highlighted that some apprentices were not receiving enough training time and that the curriculum was not always challenging enough for learners. It also noted that the progress of some apprentices was not tracked effectively, leaving gaps in their learning.

Multiverse has grown rapidly since its launch, attracting significant investment and partnerships with major employers. The company focuses on providing an alternative to traditional university education, placing young people into high-skilled apprenticeships. However, the Ofsted report suggests that this rapid expansion may have come at a cost to educational quality.

In response, a spokesperson for Multiverse said the company was "disappointed" with the rating but acknowledged the need for improvement. They stated that changes had already been made to address the issues raised by inspectors, including increasing training hours and strengthening curriculum oversight. The company remains committed to its mission of creating a new pathway into professional careers, but the regulator's findings will likely put pressure on it to demonstrate that its programs meet the required standards.
