MUNCIE, IN -- Muncie Community Schools has received the Best Communities for Music Education Award from the NAMM Foundation. The district is one of only 16 in Indiana to earn the recognition this year.
The award highlights school districts across the country that show strong commitment to music education and work to make sure students have fair access to music learning as part of a complete education. The program has been running for 27 years.
MCS officials said the honor reflects the work of teachers, administrators, and community members who support music programs in the schools. The district offers band, choir, orchestra, and general music classes at various grade levels.
The recognition also points to efforts to keep music education available to all students, not just those who can afford private lessons or extra fees. MCS has worked to remove barriers that might keep some students from participating.
Music educators in the district said they were proud of the award and hope it encourages more students to get involved in music. Studies have shown that music education can help with academic performance, social skills, and personal development.
The NAMM Foundation gives the award each year to schools that meet high standards for music program funding, staffing, facilities, and community support. Muncie Community Schools will now be listed among other top districts from around the country.
