Westfield State University helps lead the state’s first Inclusive Postsecondary Education Day

Massachusetts has officially marked its first Inclusive Postsecondary Education Day, a milestone driven largely by students and staff from Westfield State University. The event, held at the State House in Boston, aimed to raise awareness about college programs designed for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Westfield State University has been a central force in this movement, with its own Inclusive Postsecondary Education (IPSE) program serving as a model for others across the state. The university's initiative, known as the Westfield State University Inclusive Postsecondary Education (WSU IPSE) program, offers students with disabilities the chance to experience campus life, take college courses, and gain job skills alongside their peers.

During the State House event, Westfield State students shared personal stories about how the program has transformed their lives. They spoke about gaining independence, building friendships, and preparing for meaningful careers. State lawmakers and education officials also attended, highlighting the importance of expanding such opportunities.

The recognition of Inclusive Postsecondary Education Day is seen as a step toward making higher education more accessible for all students. Westfield State University plans to continue advocating for similar programs statewide, ensuring that students with disabilities have the same chances to learn, grow, and succeed.
