The Music Academy of the West's 2026 Music Note Gala brought in a record-breaking $1.2 million, a sum that will go directly toward scholarships, music education programs, and community access initiatives in Santa Barbara. The event, held on the academy's scenic Riviera campus, drew more than 400 guests, including local philanthropists, alumni, and prominent figures from the classical music world.
This year's gala featured a live performance by academy fellows alongside a special tribute to longtime faculty member and conductor, who retired after three decades of teaching. The evening also included a silent auction with items ranging from a private yacht cruise to a one-on-one masterclass with a visiting artist. Organizers said the funds raised exceeded last year's total by nearly 30 percent, a jump they attribute to expanded donor outreach and a new matching gift challenge from a board member.
The money will support full-tuition scholarships for the academy's summer festival, which hosts around 140 young musicians from around the globe. It will also fund free community concerts and a new outreach program that brings chamber music performances to local schools and senior centers. Academy president said the gala's success reflects the community's growing belief in the power of music to transform lives, and she emphasized that every dollar will stay in Santa Barbara to nurture the next generation of artists.
