Florida State University’s Institute for Governance and Civics has been awarded a substantial grant of $1.7 million from the U.S. Department of Education to initiate the Founding Voices project. This innovative program aims to engage middle school students throughout Florida by immersing them in the rich history and principles of America’s founding era.
The Founding Voices project will utilize a variety of interactive teaching methods, including hands-on activities, digital resources, and collaborative projects, to make historical content accessible and engaging for young learners. By focusing on key figures, events, and documents from the Revolutionary period, the program seeks to foster a deeper understanding of democracy, citizenship, and civic responsibility among students.
Educators involved in the project will receive training and resources to effectively implement the curriculum, ensuring that students not only learn about history but also develop critical thinking skills and a sense of civic engagement. This initiative represents a significant step towards enriching the educational landscape in Florida and inspiring the next generation of informed citizens.
